Die US Navy verzichtet in sensiblen Gebieten im Pazifik auf Militärsonare und explosive Munition: dies ist ein weiterer wichtiger Schritt für stillere Ozeane.

Wädenswil/Hawaii, 17.9.2015: Die US Navy verzichtet auf den Einsatz aktiver Sonarsysteme und explosiver Munition bei Manövern in einigen für Meeressäuger wichtigen Gebieten im Pazifik vor Kalifornien und Hawaii. Dies nachdem Naturschutzorganisationen, darunter der Natural Ressource Defense Council (NRDC), eine Partnerorganisation von OceanCare, gegen die Durchführung militärischer Aktivitäten in diesen Zonen geklagt haben. Auf Anraten der Richterin traf die US Navy mit den Klägern eine aussergerichtliche Vereinbarung. OceanCare begrüsst diese Entwicklung als Meilenstein zur Reduktion der Gefahr für das marine Leben durch Unterwasserlärm und wirkt darauf hin, dass auch die NATO und andere militärische Streitkräfte diesem Beispiel folgen.
